|
|
Mate of mine built himself a XE corsa on bike throttle bodies but recently it decided to expire so rather than fix it he wanted shot of it as they've just had a baby last week and he's bought a zafira instead.
So I got it off him as he was letting it go cheap because it was broken.
I whipped the head off, and it had properly blown the gasket, to the extent it had burnt into the head itself, so it needed a new one, looks like its had something go through the inlet too as there was a little damage to the piston on number 4 as well, but luckily nothing that matters.
Simon Denman had the old head off his rally car lieing around now that he has bought my nova head off me for his big power build, so I chucked that on it and its back up and running now.
Need to get some tax on it and a set of plates as the tax has just run out and my mate wanted his private reg back, but hopefully will get that done in the next couple of weeks and map it.
Annoyingly I had already put a pretty decent basemap on it for him before but that map was lost when his mate was messing around with it trying to mess about with it when it started running rough (before they realised it was mechanically damaged) and accidently wiped it off, lol, so I need to start again now with the mapping, but thats not a problem obviously.
Didnt get a chance to get a decent picture of it, but this gives the idea at least.
Its got some budget coilovers on the front and some matching shocks and adjustable spring platforms on the back.
Got a pair of old bucket seats and harnesses inside, and got 288mm disks with new EBC greenstuff pads and grooved/drilled disks.
Also came on some T1R's that have only done 14 miles from new.
I'll try and get some better pics weekend after next as im at combe in the clio next weekend so wont get a chance.
Figured it will do me for TV-live if I havent got the Nova up and running by then. _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

Ive got 10 cars at the moment, I guess technically though the only 1 I need is my corsa c daily driver though, as its the best on fuel for getting to work and back, lol _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

No plans to get rid of the clio currently, thought it might be fun taking both to a trackday though as they should be relatively even so a good chance to race one of my mates about etc. _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

I'd guess its about 20bhp more than standard or so, so about 160-170 (IME a standard high mile XE will make 140-150 on DD rollers) _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

Lol, yeah good point from that angle, if I took it showing the shed behind you'd see about 10 of his cars there though, lol _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

Yeah sadly I can only take one up as the mrs isnt insured to drive my cars.
When she gets to 25, i'll make sure she adds "drive other cars" to her insurance so I can get her to bring one up for me!
Suppose if demman isnt working he might want to bring it up and do the day in it so i can race him, but its not got number plates or tax yet, the old v5 has gone to the dvla for a plate transfer so I cant do it till that comes back saying what the new reg is. Not sure if that will be here by friday or not. _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

My mate finally got the v5 back from the DVLA after transferring off his private plates, so I was able to get some new plates made up and tax it.
Took it out yesterday and whacked a 5 minute base map on it, drives pretty well considering, Im sure its at quick as my clio and has a better spread of torque if anything.
The way it turns in (or rather doesnt!) is frankly terrifiying though, its got a 4.2 turns lock to lock rack on it and you have to turn it SO far to get any response at all.
So first handling mod needs to be to get the rack from an epas corsa onto it as they are much higher geared.
Also going to look at getting a little more caster onto it as there is almost none at the moment.
Fingers crossed wont be a problem having it ready for combe.
Really needs the stem seals doing at some point as its smoking its tits off on the overrun (the joys of fitting a head thats been sitting for 10 years or so!) but thats nothing that will stop me taking it to combe.
Once TVL is out the way Im probably going to put the old head off twitchells car on it if I can get the valve guides sorted (he had a couple come loose or something IIRC) as thats a ported head and +1mm valves, and I will probably see about putting some slightly hotter cams in at the same time if I do it (cant go far due to standard bottom end). _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

| 2.7 turn epas rack and grind the shoulder on the tie bars back 15mm or so will make a massive difference! |

I dont really want to grind the shoulder on the tie bar too much as I dont like the way it stresses the inner TCA polybush.
I will probably take 5mm off the shoulder, move the strut top back 5-10mm and move the bottom balljoint forward about the 5-10mm (ive looked and if I oval the hole in the arm and the tie bar it will allow the balljoint to face diagonally forward, much like on robs just by a lesser amount)
So that should give me 20mm or so in total, which is about all Im looking for I guess as thats approx 2 degrees extra caster
But the rack really is the top priority, its TERRIBLE on this one, its like driving a narrow boat!
And i'll set it up with a small amount of toe out on the front once I have finished as that will make it keener to turn in, probably around half a degree or so. _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.
